Dilly Bag For The Wildwood Dwellings Fabric Tour

As part of my role as a fabric blogger for Poppie Cotton, I have been gifted some beautiful fabrics to sew with. Today I want to introduce you to Wildwood Dwellings by Sheri McCulley – a beautiful collection of soft, muted tones featuring motifs of forest animals like deer, squirrels, birds and foxes.

It was the fox motif that drew me to working with this collection as it reminded me of my own Fifi Fox Pin Cushion Pattern. You can see her above.
In this image of the entire collection, you can see the main prints on the top, with all of these sweet animals, plus acorns, autumn leaves and berries.

Other prints in Wildwood Dwellings showcase sweet meadow-like florals, urns overflowing with flowers, a decorative cursive text and some geometric florals too. Can you spy them above?
I knew the animal motifs would be perfectly highlighted on my Easter Dilly Bag. The original was designed as a draw-string bag with outside pockets for storing collected Easter eggs. It features embroidered bunnies and flowers in the centre panel.

I realised that the varied prints, patterns and colours in this collection would work ideally with this sewing pattern. Instead of embroidering the centre panel, I chose the main animal print to be featured instead. How cute is that sleeping fox?

Rather than being Easter themed, I think this version of the bag will be perfect for storing sewing supplies and bits and pieces for stitching on the go.

One of my favourite features of the Easter Dilly Bag is the cute little petals sewn to the top that fan out like a flower when you pull the drawstring.

I also love the little fabric yoyo’s or Suffolk puffs that are hand stitched and then attached to the side seams for each pocket.

If you haven’t made them before, they’re very straightforward and I have an easy-to-follow tutorial you can use to make your own yoyo’s. They become addictive to stitch.
If you’ve fallen in love with this brand new collection as much as I have, be sure to ask for Wildwood Dwellings at your favourite fabric retailer. Thanks again to Poppie Cotton for providing me with the fabric to showcase for you.

There are many more designers showcasing their makes for the fabric tour too, so be sure to check back with Poppie Cotton on Instagram as they highlight a new designer’s project every day.

Thanks for reading along today. I hope you feel inspired to create your own Wildwood Dwellings projects!
