Pretty Projects With The Market Day Fabric Collection
I’m so thrilled to be working with Poppie Cotton as a fabric ambassador. My job is to create some beautiful projects with their new release collections to get you inspired with lots of ideas. When I was invited to sew with the Market Day Collection by Amy Jordan, I jumped at the chance! Read on to see this stunning collection, be inspired with new projects, and to download my FREE BOOKMARK pattern too.
The Market Day Collection
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I am a lover of tiny florals, pastel palettes, and sweet motifs. With market day buntings, matryoshka dolls, teeny strawberries and dainty flower motifs, this collection has it all. Amy mentioned being inspired by hand made goods, thrifted treasures and vintage finds for this range. It certainly is sweet!
I’ve always been a pastel lover, and the colours in this collections are so sweet. But I do love that pop of red, to bring a bit of contrast and to create a focal point in my sewing!
I was immediately drawn to the matryoshka motifs and decided to highlight those with some fussy cut hexagons.
It didn’t take me long to decide what to create with them! Those hexagons quickly turned into a couple of super sweet and practical fabric bookmarks.
Easy Hexagon Bookmarks
These cute little bookmarks are the perfect introduction to working with hexagons and English paper piecing. The construction is simple and straightforward, and they are quick to make! And the best part is that the pattern is FREE! I designed this project as a special thank you for my email subscribers. I’d love you to join the list and grab the PDF file too.
Blooming Vines Table Topper
My second project is a beautiful table topper that features an English paper pieced Dresden plate design. I loved showing off those matryoshkas again. Here’s a work-in-progress photo of the EPP construction.
The centre features the market day bunting print, and the space is perfect to show off a pretty vase of flowers.
Here you can see some of the tiny details, including the hand quilting using variegated floss. I love the way the red turns to pink. Can you spy the tiny little lemon French knots at each intersection of the cross hatched quilting too?
How fresh and fun does it look?
If you’d like to sew this pretty quilted piece, the Blooming Vines Table Topper pattern is coming to the Molly and Mama store soon. It was originally designed to showcase an embroidered wreath in the centre. And instead of the machine quilting on the background, the original has decorative hand stitched details. I love making a pattern in new ways, because it really showcases how different a design can look depending on the fabrics used. Just a few simple adjustments can really change the entire look of a design! Which version do you prefer?
