Looking Back On 2024 And Choosing A Word For 2025

Welcome to 2025! The start of a new year is always exciting, always fresh and always full of promise. But if I have learnt anything from running a creative business, it’s also that nothing really happens without forward planning. So it’s time to put those dreams for the coming year into actionable plans.

I find that one of the best ways to approach anything new, is to choose a single word that will become the overarching theme. Last year I chose CURIOSITY. (You can read more about why HERE.) Using this word as a guide really informed everything that I did for my business (and my social life) in 2024. I created new designs for Makers Bundles, collaborated with other designers, made new sewing friends, sewed some pretty projects as a fabric blogger for Poppie Cotton, attended sewing events like the Tilda Jubilee Event, and much more. I undertook all of these opportunities and tasks with a feeling of curiosity; to see where they would take me and what I could achieve in trying new and different things.

Some of my makes for 2024…

  11. The Beaded Wreath Ornament was another free pattern for Christmas

Curiosity also made an impact in my personal life. I attended a slow stitching class, painting and drawing workshop and creative writing class too. I joined the local permaculture society and a beautiful book club. I went to musicals, the theatre, culinary school restaurants and more. Whilst I loved all the usual get togethers, trips and holidays with family and friends, it was extra special being able to try new and different things too. The classes and events taught be more about what I enjoy and what I find inspiring. So with that in mind, it’s helped me narrow down a list of options for my word for 2025.

My New Word of the Year

I spent some time in that funny week between Christmas and New Years really thinking about what I wanted out of 2025. On reflection, my curiosity really helped me learn and explore in 2024. So it only seems fitting that the word for the new year reflects where that curiosity can take me. 2025 is all about refining what I do, through growth and expansion, nurturing and cultivating Molly and Mama to become everything it’s meant to be. I want to embrace that growth but to see it prosper and develop.

My word of the year comes from these concepts;

  • Becoming
  • Nurture
  • Cultivate
  • Growth
  • Expansion
  • Refining
  • Embrace

Flourish!

And this year I have decided I’ll be focussing on the word FLOURISH. I think it’s the perfect word because it means to thrive and grow successfully in a healthy and prosperous way. What could be better?

I’m looking forward to focussing on flourishing with positive growth and intention in 2025!

I have so many fun ideas for the coming year, including some beautiful pattern releases, clubs and more. Sign up to the newsletter or join me in the Molly and Mama Makers Facebook Group to stay up to date with everything!

Here’s a little preview of some of the new releases you can expect to see in 2025. I can’t wait.

  2. I love to hand sew, it’s so calming. My projects include hand quilting, hand embroidery and crosstitch. I like to add embroidery to my quilts to make it specially my own.
