Fun Makes for the Matilda Fabric Tour

As a fabric blogger for Poppie Cotton Fabrics, I very privileged to have the chance to work with new release fabric collections and showcase them for you. This month I’ve been working with the Matilda Collection designed by Terri Henson. Here’s how the range is described on the website;
It features vintage florals, fluttering butterflies, tone on tone designs and geometrics that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Shades of pretty pinks and reds, cheerful yellows and whites, teals and leafy greens add a fresh playful touch for your quilting, crafting and sewing projects.
The Clara Tote Bag
Because the prints and patterns in the Matilda Fabric Collection are so varied, they’re perfect for showcasing in simple patchwork. For this reason, I decided to make my Clara Tote Bag which features all 21 prints from the collection. It’s lovely because each print has a chance to shine. I especially love the large rose sprays, the butterflies and the little floral sprays within the dotted frames.

The Clara Tote Bag is the perfect introduction to bag making, with simple patchwork and straightforward assembly. The little decorative elements like the bag tag, leather look label, lace trim and hand quilting really elevate the finished look, making it look more complex to create than it really is. You can grab the pattern in my STORE or by clicking the button above.

Make Scrappy Fabric Easter Eggs
The second project I created were these fun no-sew scrappy fabric covered eggs. I always keep my fabric scraps because even the tiniest motifs are ideal. You don’t even need to use themed holiday fabrics. There are so many sweet floral and butterfly motifs in this fabric collection, so it was fun to feature them. Can you spy them below?

To create these eggs, you just need a plastic egg, some PVA or clear drying craft glue and an assortment of precut tiny fabric scraps. You can read more about it here. Or simply fill out your details below and I’ll email you the instructions for free. That way you always have the details on hand.

As always, it was such a pleasure to work with these fabrics to showcase them for you. What would you make with Matilda?
Ask for this collection at your favourite fabric retailer, or check the stockists list on the Poppie Cotton website. It’s shipping to stores in March 2026.

Thanks for being here today. Happy stitching, Lauren.
