So, you know I’m a huge fan of One Thimble, right? I just LOVE that sewing magazine! So I jumped at the chance to join in on a Blog Tour for Issue 9. There are just so many gorgeous patterns in the current issue, it was hard choosing just one to make. So I left it to Miss 6 to decide.
Introducing The Carnival Jacket
The Carnival Jacket by Marina of Peach Patterns features four different style options and can be made in both woven and knit fabrics. I was also really pleased to see that it goes up to size 12! I also have to admit to feeling a bit of pattern envy too – the lay out and presentation of Marina’s patterns are beautiful! So this one was really easy to follow.
Miss 6 was in need of a summer jacket for those cooler nights we get here up in the mountains. So she selected a light weight denim. She wanted a more ‘grown-up’ look (which just about broke my heart, because they grow up so quickly as it is)! But I did agree that a plain denim jacket leaves us with lots of options for styling with other outfits.
Being tall, I decided to sew her the size 7 for extra length in the body. And I was really happy with the fit. I don’t sew clothes regularly so I was also really thankful for the facings cheat sheet provided in Issue 9 too. It was really helpful!
With the jacket done, Miss 6 also asked for a brooch to decorate it. I had to convince her that a cupcake made entirely in glitter felt might be a bit much! So we compromised, and she choose navy and white felt, with red and silver glitter accents. I made the Cupcake Brooch using the Festive Felties Pattern that I designed (which also appears in One Thimble’s Issue 9). And my felt came from the lovely Candice from Rose Petal Collections.
And apparently a new jacket also requires a new hair accessory. So I used the Coco Flower Crown Pattern (which appears on the cover of One Thimble Issue 8), to create a navy, red and white flower headband, with gorgeous silver glitter leaves. Miss 6 LOVES it! And it’s perfect for her Australia Day outfit too. Winning!
So just to recap, if you’d like to have a go at making The Carnival Jacket and the Cupcake Brooch, both patterns are included in Issue 9 of One Thimble. This image will give you an idea of all the beautiful patterns available in this issue.
Or you can buy both the patterns separately at the One Thimble website (the cupcake is part of the Festive Felties pattern). The Coco Flower Crown is part of One thimble Issue 8, but you can purchase the pattern on it’s own in my store.
