Text It! Blog Hop and Book Review
Sherri from Rebecca Mae Designs has just released her first book Text It!: Quilts and Pillows with Something to Say and I am thrilled to be joining her Blog Hop! If you’ve found your way here as part of the tour, welcome! It’s lovely to have you.
‘Text It’ contains 10 different quilty projects that all feature appliquéd text. Each of the mini quilts, larger quilts and pillows all explore different sewing techniques and styles. So there’s a project for everyone. And it also contains seven full alphabets so you can personalise your creation with your own text too. Clever, right?
I chose to make the Sewing Machine Mat featured on page 55. It’s something that’s been on my sewing list for a long time and I really liked Sherri’s design. I did decide to make a few changes to her suggested dimensions though. My sewing table is fairly small, so I adjusted the size to fit my table. I also wanted to patchwork the top. I’ve been receiving a monthly bundle of Liberty fabrics from The Strawberry Thief as part of their Love Liberty Club. This project was the perfect opportunity to mix and match some of my favourite prints and feature them in this project. And I got to use this beautiful striped binding that I have been hoarding for ages.
I appliquéd the word ‘sew’ onto the front pockets of the mat using wool felt, secured with blanket stitch on my sewing machine. I love how it turned out! And those little pockets are so practical. Very clever!
Here’s a little view of it with some of my favourite sewing supplies, including my Miss Molly pin cushion. You can find her pattern in the store as part of the ‘Miss Molly and Friends Pin Cushion Trio’ PDF.
Look at all that glorious Liberty! You can tell that tiny florals and pretty pastels are my thing, right?
Head over to Rebecca Mae Designs for a book giveaway and more. And if you’d like a signed copy of the book from the author herself, please use this link.
Be sure to look back over the list of bloggers below to see what everyone has been making over the last couple of weeks. It’s organised by project which is really handy! And Sherri will round up everything on her blog Rebecca May Designs tomorrow.

Love the soft pretty fabrics you used!
I love the pastel florals too thanks Cindy.
I love your fabric choices. Very nice. Liberty is amazing fabric.
Thank you Christi. Liberty really is the prettiest fabric and so lovely to work with!
Oh my gosh–how pretty! Your fabric choices are so sweet and the stripedy binding just makes it.
Thank you Beth! I do love my pretty florals.
Beautiful, Lauren!
Thank you Cathy!
That is just beautiful. I like the smaller pockets they would work better on my sewing table as well.
Aren’t we lucky we can make these changes and adjustments. Thanks for your comment!
Gotta love everything about this sewing mat. Liberty fabrics, pink stripe binding, wool felted lettering. I especially like the way the letters stand out and create that texture. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your lovely feedback Sandra. It means so much.
THANK YOU so much for your lovely Blog! Such an inspiration to all of us quilters/seamstresses!
That’s so kind of you to say Linda. I appreciate it!
Your sewing mat is wonderful!! I have one and I don’t know what I did with all my stuff before I made it!!
I’m loving using it already! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Very pretty sewing mat. Thank you for posting.
Thank you for your kind words Sharon
I absolutely love the padtels and flowers in this project. Did you use a flannel for the word?
Pastels and florals are definitely my thing! I used wool felt for the appliquéd ‘sew’ word.
Beautiful mat – great fabric selection!
Thank you Ali. I do love working with Liberty!
This is so pretty!
