Introducing the ‘Stella Cushion’ for Make Modern Magazine

What an exciting day! I recently had the pleasure of designing a special project for Make Modern magazine*. Issue 24 released today and I’m so honoured to have been able to be a part of it! This issue features a beautiful array of modern quilt designs. And of course, I’d love to introduce you to my Stella Cushion Cover!

The Stella Cushion design started with a beautiful bundle of Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics from Ava and Neve. I used the Sunset Plain Bundle to create the English paper pieced design in the centre. I also used the Hexie Shape Family papers from Tales of Cloth to create the layout of the design. If you’d like to know more about English paper piecing, you might find my beginners tutorial really helpful.

Wiltshire LC (also from Ava and Neve) was a perfect match for the binding. A white solid quilter’s weight cotton with a small dot was used for the cushion base.

The simple hand quilting looks really effective with the use of three different graduating colours of Aurifloss (six stranded Aurifil embroidery floss). And my sweet little Sleepy Cloud pin cushion matches perfectly, right?

To get the full pattern, instructions and more, please head to the Make Modern Magazine* website to order your digital copy. The cover quilt looks like lots of fun too!

Happy stitching, Lauren x
