The Toffee Tree Pattern Review for One Thimble Issue 7

Welcome to one of the first blog posts in the One Thimble* Issue 7 Blog Tour! Let me just say that the line up of bloggers to review the stunning range of patterns to be found in the next One Thimble edition is nothing short of amazing. I know you’re going to love being introduced to this wonderful digital magazine, and getting an inside view of what’s available in Issue 7. Read on to find out more!

My earliest memories of sewing are with my friend Jandy. We’d sit in her mum’s sewing room and create all of these adorable outfits for our dolls, especially our Barbies! Thinking on those times brings back such warm memories. So when Jen from One Thimble Sewing E-Zine put out a call for pattern reviewers for the next issue, I jumped at the chance to check out an adorable little doll cape pattern from The Toffee Tree. Michelle created the sweetest little pattern that comes with a whole range of cute options; from a capelet with or without a hood, to a cape with bear, cat, bunny, puppy or wolf ears. It’s a super quick sew. The pattern is easy to follow, well laid out, and has excellent instructions with a great mix of diagrams and photos. And it’s great for sewists of all levels!

I quickly whipped up the reversible capelet without a hood. Barbie demonstrates the cape’s lining as it drapes on her arm. Hehehe! What do you think of the styling?

I used a press stud at the neck, and a small crochet heart to embellish the cape. It turned out so adorable.

Then I realised that Barbie had nothing to go with the cape, so I had to stitch her up a pretty cotton halter neck sun dress from a 1980’s doll’s clothes pattern book (thanks Mum, I knew that would come in handy one day!).

I had so much fun deciding on the styling for Barbie’s fashion shoot, that I was inspired to sew more looks. I tried the hooded cape with the bunny ears next. I really love how it turned out!

What do you think of the lining? As you can imagine, the pattern pieces are small and the process can be a little fiddly. But I think the results are totally worth it! Michelle’s pattern sewed up beautifully!

So where can you get your hands on this super cute pattern? From my favourite e-zine! It was designed exclusively for One Thimble digital sewing magazine. Issue 7 is set to be released on Friday, 15th May. In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, let me share my love for OT! All issues of One thimble bring you a gorgeous range of full sewing patterns. There’s also a huge array of general sewing articles, tutorials on sewing techniques, and so so so much more! (Just a tip, I may have contributed something to this issue about working with my favourite medium – wool felt. Keep your eyes peeled!). This is the kind of publication that is a MUST-READ for all sewing enthusiasts! And it’s fantastic value for money.

Issue 7 is inspired by the theme ‘Lost in a good book.’ I think Barbie is doing a beautiful job in channeling Little Red Riding Hood and fits right in. What do you think?
